About the Role
The Animation Director will be responsible for defining and driving the overall animation style, acting quality, and performance tone of the project. They will translate the Director’s creative vision into compelling character performances, supervise all animation work including keyframe and motion capture, and ensure emotional clarity and consistency across sequences. The role involves leading and mentoring the animation team, reviewing shots daily, providing clear creative feedback, collaborating closely with the Director, CG Supervisor, and Technical Director, and approving animation before it moves to lighting and rendering, while supporting production in planning schedules and shot complexity.
Requirements
7+ years of professional experience in character animation for films or series
Prior experience as Animation Director, Supervisor, or Lead Animator
Strong understanding of acting, timing, weight, and emotional performance
Proficiency in industry tools such as Maya or Blender
Experience working with and polishing motion capture data
Ability to direct and animate non-human and creature characters
Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills
Knowledge of facial animation and lip-sync workflows
Ability to work under tight schedules and solve creative challenges
Passion for storytelling and building high-quality original animation
